About the Customer
Operlynx is a technology company focused on enhancing operational efficiency by providing real-time visibility, control, and collaboration capabilities for industrial organizations. Founded in 2008, Operlynx delivers digital transformation solutions tailored to managing complex operations like Shutdowns, Turnarounds, and Outages (STOs) through its flagship platform, OperlynxSTO. This digital STO (dSTO) solution serves as a comprehensive operating system that increases productivity and decision-making accuracy while ensuring compliance with top-tier industry standards. Operlynx is ISO 27001 certified, emphasizing its commitment to cybersecurity and data integrity.
Customer Challenge
Operlynx’s DevOps pipeline was originally built around Octopus Deploy, a commercial deployment automation solution. While Octopus offered deployment automation capabilities, it introduced several critical challenges:
- Cost inefficiency: Octopus’ licensing model imposed recurring expenses that scaled poorly with Operlynx’s growing infrastructure.
- Operational bottlenecks: Custom automation, integration, and monitoring were constrained by the platform’s proprietary nature, leading to increased maintenance overhead.
Without addressing these challenges, Operlynx risked stagnating its DevOps maturity and accumulating unsustainable operational costs.
Solution
To overcome these issues, Operlynx partnered with IAMOPS to execute a strategic migration from Octopus Deploy to Jenkins—an open-source, plugin-rich CI/CD automation server that enables customizable and scalable pipelines.
IAMOPS led the end-to-end transformation through the following key phases:
- CI/CD Pipeline Migration: All Octopus-managed workflows were replicated in Jenkins using Groovy-based scripted pipelines. These pipelines incorporated automated build, test, deploy, rollback, and release stages for all projects.
- Monitoring Stack Implementation: A complete observability suite was integrated using Prometheus (metrics), Loki (log aggregation), and Grafana (dashboards). This ensured real-time visibility into Jenkins job health, resource utilization, and system performance.
- Alerting and Incident Management: Zenduty was configured to handle alerts, integrated with Slack for real-time team notifications to reduce Mean Time to Detection (MTTD) and Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR).
- Source Control Integration: Jenkins was tightly coupled with GitHub repositories to support event-driven triggers and automated code deployments.
- Credential and Security Management: Sensitive variables and secrets were securely stored within Jenkins using encrypted credential stores and RBAC-based permissions.
IAMOPS ensured a phased migration, minimizing disruption while validating stability at every stage. Their team provided continuous support through:
- Pre-migration assessment of the Octopus environment
- Jenkins architecture setup and plugin validation
- Performance testing and optimization
- Documentation, team training, and post-migration monitoring

Results & Benefits
The project delivered measurable improvements across operational cost, performance, and CI/CD maturity:
- Cost Optimization: By switching to Jenkins, Operlynx eliminated licensing fees, reducing CI/CD-related operating expenses by approximately 70%. Jenkins’ open-source ecosystem allowed for better budget allocation and long-term control.
- Agility and Flexibility: Jenkins’ plugin architecture enabled dynamic customization, supporting future-proof DevOps practices such as IaC integration and automated testing pipelines.
- Improved Monitoring: Enhanced observability through Prometheus and Grafana empowered Operlynx to detect performance degradation early, reducing incident response time by 40%.
- Seamless Team Enablement: Thorough documentation, standardized scripting practices, and robust version control allowed rapid onboarding and cross-team collaboration.
